DAMAGED GOODS
If The Courier Guy has damaged your products, you can submit a claim for compensation through their formal claims process. Your success depends on factors like the value of your item, how it was packaged, and whether you purchased insurance.
Here is a step-by-step guide to follow:
1. Document the damage immediately
Evidence is critical for a successful claim. Take comprehensive photos of all damage as soon as you receive the parcel.
Photograph the external packaging. This is important if there is visible damage to the box or wrapping.
Photograph the damaged product(s). Get close-ups of all the damage to the item itself.
Take pictures of the inner packaging. Document how the items were cushioned, showing how they were packaged to be protected. The Courier Guy may deny a claim based on insufficient packaging.
Get timestamps. Make a note of the date and time you discovered the damage.
2. File the claim within the strict timeframe
You must inform The Courier Guy and submit your claim quickly. the claim must be lodged within 48 hours of delivery.
Contact The Courier Guy’s customer support via WhatsApp at 064 848 1531 or by emailing support@thecourierguy.co.za.
3. Complete and submit all required documentation
You will need to fill out a claim form and provide supporting documents to the company.
Waybill number. You will need this to reference your parcel.
Proof of cost. Include the original invoice that shows the cost price of the goods.
Photos. Submit all the photographic evidence you collected.
Completed claim form. You may be provided with a form to fill in.
4. Understand liability and insurance
Your entitlement to compensation will depend on the value of your items and whether you purchased extra coverage.
Liability up to R1,000. The Courier Guy automatically covers consignments up to R1,000.
Insurance for higher value items. You must have explicitly purchased limited liability insurance for goods valued up to R30,000 when booking the consignment.
Electronics. Electronics and gadgets must be new and in their original, sealed packaging to be covered. Mobile phones and laptops are specifically excluded from coverage, even with insurance.
Packaging. If your items were not packed sufficiently, the company will likely not accept liability for the damage.
5. Follow up and escalate if necessary
Claims can take a long time to resolve, but the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) offers additional recourse.
Be persistent. The Courier Guy has a reputation for slow claims processes. Be prepared to follow up diligently.
Escalate to the ombudsman. If the company denies your valid claim or fails to resolve the issue, you can lodge a formal complaint with the Consumer Goods and Services Ombudsman.
Consider legal action. For significant losses, you can consider taking the matter to small claims court. The CPA requires couriers to exercise reasonable care and prevents them from contracting out of liability for damage caused by their negligence.
